If you own a pusher type aircraft, you may want to think about how robust your propeller is. Your propeller tips are traveling at more than half the speed of sound. We had one owner in a Long Eze that had an 8" piece of his exhaust come off and travel through his 3-bladed prop. He heard a horrific bang, but the blade stayed intact and was able to fly home. Another 3-bladed owner in a tractor configuration retracted his gear with his engine stopped and the aircraft fell onto the tips of two of the blades supporting the aircraft. The tips were repaired and flew again. |
